Luray, town (1990 pop. 4,587), Page co., N Va., 27 mi/43 km NE of Harrisonburg, on Hawksbill Creek, in Shenandoah Valley; 38°39'N 78°27'W. Mfg. (automotive door panels, canoes, printing and publishing; clothing, leather finishing); in agr. area (apples, peaches, grain; poultry, livestock; dairying). Hq. of Shenandoah Natl. Park. George Washington Natl. Forest is N and W. The Luray Caverns to W discovered in 1878, noted for their large stalagmite and stalactite formations, and water pools. Inc. 1812.
